• Applications for the 2024-25 Local Food Program are due by 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 6. The Local Food Program pilot funds the purchase of locally grown, raised, or processed products. • State Board of Education invites public comments on transportation rulemaking. Proposed technical changes would ensure the rules (1 CCR 301-25 and 1 CCR 301-26) reflect federal regulations, state statutes, and best practices for safe transportation of students. The board welcomes public comment at its August meeting; find more information about the meeting and public comment on our website. 

• Nominations are open for the Colorado Educator Talent Pool. Nominees must be classroom teachers or principals with at least five years of experience. Talent pool educators are invited to statewide opportunities such as advisory boards, task forces, and special recognition programs. Nominations are due by Tuesday, June 18.

Don Vu, a former award-winning teacher and principal,  will share his experiences as a refugee from Vietnam from his book, Life, Literacy, and the Pursuit of Happiness, and how to provide literacy pathways for immigrant students. Continuing Education credits will be offered for full attendance and can be applied toward the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education 45-hour licensure renewal requirement. Colorado K-12 and college educators will convene at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs and virtually to discuss the future of cybersecurity education from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, April 29. Attendees will learn about the state of cybersecurity education in Colorado and available resources, how to drive alignment among stakeholders, and network with other educators interested in growing opportunities in K-12 cybersecurity education. Learn more and register to join online or in person.

Each year, CDE asks for recommendations for the Colorado Educator Talent Pool to help us identify talented teachers and school leaders to participate in statewide growth opportunities including advisory boards, task forces, and special recognition programs. Colorado Educator Talent Pool nominees should:

• Have a minimum of five years of experience;
• Serve in a school-level role; and
• Demonstrate exceptional instructional practice and leadership.

Nominees should be classroom teachers or principals, and CDE is particularly interested in increasing the number of early career nominees with five to 12 years of service in schools. Visit our website for more information and to complete the Talent Pool Recommendation Form by Tuesday, June 18. 

SchoolWorks, an independent education consulting firm contracted to support the work of CDE and the Colorado State Board of Education in overseeing the work of the State Review Panel, seeks applicants to serve on the State Review Panel during the 2024-25 school year. 

Panelists are assigned to schools based on areas of expertise to evaluate whether a school or district has met the requirements for a recommended state accountability action. Applicants must be Colorado residents and experts in school/district turnaround, alternative education and English language learning. Learn more and apply on the SchoolWorks website by Friday, May 3.
