2012 CASB Annual Convention Recap

Nearly 1,000 school board members, superintendents and support personnel representing 157 school districts helped us “Rise to the Challenge” and made our 72nd Annual CASB Convention a huge success! We gathered in Colorado Springs from Nov. 29-Dec. 2 for four days of learning, connecting, growing and inspiration.

Attendees heard from state and national education leaders, including Colorado's Commissioner of Education Robert Hammond, Gov. John Hickenlooper, NYU Professor Pedro Noguera, scholarly critic and reform advocate Rick Hess, and Joan Wodiska from the National Governors Association. Keynote speaker presentations can be downloaded from our general session webpage.

Convention photographer Tom Kimmell captured more than 1,300 images at our convention. Be sure to take a peek at our photo albums. On the CASB Video Vault page, you can watch Executive Director Ken DeLay's welcome address at the first general session and Gov. John Hickenlooper's speech at the second general session luncheon.

New this year to the convention were four Distinguished Speaker Sessions that highlighted the use of technology to transform learning, the future of PERA, school reform and state trust lands funding. Presentations are available on our distinguished speaker webpage. Additionally, the Tom Vander Ark video on The Shift to Personal Digital Learning is also available for DVD purchase.

Preconvention sessions give insight on topics vital to successful governing
Bullying prevention, how to engage public participation, education reform, SB 191 and an analysis of what’s happening in education at our nation’s capital were just a few of the highlights of preconvention sessions, which are available for download on our preconvention webpage.

Breakout sessions explored a variety of topics
More than 40 breakout sessions helped attendees become more effective leaders and gave them the tools and best practices they needed to take back to their districts. Copies of many of the presentations are available for download on our breakout session webpage.

Convention DVDs available for purchase through DVD order form.
