73rd Annual CASB Convention
Nearly 1,000 school board members, superintendents, education leaders and students representing 159 districts joined us in Colorado Springs Dec. 5-8 to take part in dozens of educational sessions, a buzzing exhibit hall and invaluable networking opportunities.
Several new and exciting activities, as well as the time-honored lineup of training, speakers and exhibits, have made the CASB convention a can't-miss event, year in and year out. Be sure to take a peek at our convention photo albums featuring more than 1,000 photos that you can download or share.
This year's schedule featured something for everyone-inspiration, motivation, education and entertainment. Chip Eichelberger kicked off the convention Friday morning with a high-energy and engaging first general session keynote. By the end of his presentation, everyone was “switched on” and ready for a great convention.
Jim Brazell, president of VentureRamp Inc., delivered the third general session keynote on STEM 2.0 and transformational thinking for school leaders, followed by a dialogue with student leaders. Saturday's distinguished speakers covered some of today's most compelling topics in Colorado education - from graduation guidelines to Common Core.
Videos from two distinguished speaker sessions are included on the CASB Video Vault webpage, as well videos of Executive Director Ken's DeLay's welcome speech, legislative panel, awards and student entertainment. REMINDER: Session handouts and presentations can only be accessed via our mobile app, which remains active and available for download.
Annual Business & Leadership MeetingOn Thursday, school board members gathered for an afternoon of CASB business and an opportunity to connect with policymakers. Appointed delegates elected new CASB directors and heard from a panel of legislators who discussed key education issues. Watch the video of the legislative panel on the CASB Video Vault webpage.
Exhibit Hall activitiesOver in the Exhibit Hall, dozens of commercial vendors and CASB Partners showcased the latest products and services to assist public school districts. In addition, the Exhibit Hall highlighted the return of the always-popular Student Art Exhibit, with nearly 100 completed pieces on display.
AwardsWe also celebrated the remarkable accomplishments of school boards and superintendents. Highlights were the announcement of Center Consolidated Schools and St. Vrain Valley as the 2013 All State Board winners and CASB Director Lyndon Burnett of Agate receiving a National School Boards Association award.
